Ready, Set , GOAL
OBTAINING A GOAL: Congratulations! So you have decided to: improve your overall health and fitness, make a lifestyle change, expand your knowledge/learn something new, master a skill, ect, the list goes on and on. But what now? How does one get from here to there? Have you ever started out on the path of obtaining a goal only to fall short, never achieve it, and subsequently be disappointed? Ever wonder, "Well why wasn't I successful?" Here are a few helpful suggestions to consider when trying to achieve your goals.
1) SET SMALLER, SHORT TERM GOALS. Everyone wants to go directly from point A to point B; however, the path is usually filled with detours preventing the rapid achievement of a long term goal. By setting smaller, short term goals, it allows one to see progress towards his or her long term goal is actually occurring.
2) STEP OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE & DON'T LEFT FEAR BE A DETERRENT. Prepare to be challenged and accept those challenges as they present themselves. Understand in obtaining any major goal you may be uncomfortable at times, both physically and or emotionally. To quote Will Smith, "On the other side of your maximum fear are the best things in life." Be brave and take the steps you know are necessary in order to make gains towards your goal.
3) ENJOY THE JOURNEY. Maintain focus on what you are trying to achieve but be careful not to overlook the experiences and processes you are going through to get there. Otherwise, you run the risk of potentially losing your joy while putting too much pressure on yourself. If you experience a set back, learn from it, be flexible/adapt, and resume your path. Be happy with small successes knowing they will eventually lead to the achievement you initially set out to obtain.
"So be sure when you step, step with care and great tact. And remember that life's a Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)" - Dr. Seuss, Oh the Places You'll Go!
